Here We Go Again

Friday, June 13th, 2014

Here we go again, starting something new. We are currently upgrading our Reservation system to ResNexus. Please excuse any inconvenience as we try to persevere through this. It is change and I do not do change well. We will be upgrading photographs, so again, please bear with us. Be assured this is for the better not the worse and hope to improve our outdated system.

I know it is short notice, but today and tomorrow is the Celtic Festival at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds,

The weather here has been mostly sunny with just the last two days some light rain. Hope to see you soon,

Welcome the New Year 2014!

Wednesday, February 5th, 2014

2014 already and we are just beginning our third year at Ocean House. It has been a pleasure meeting and taking care of all of you that make Ocean House your coastal destination.

Just a few new things going on:

The new Kitchen is in! A state of the art upgrade with natural gas and double ovens. It’s a real treat cooking breakfast now that it’s easier and more comfortable.

The Dining Room has been totally redone with a new breakfast bar and granite. A new ice maker rounds out the appliances.

Valentine’s Day is around the corner with the Newport Sea Festival following closely. Remember, Thursday and Saturday tickets can only be purchased online.

We hope that all those of you that enjoy the Ocean House come back and continue your stay on the beach. And all those of you wanting to see what Ocean House is all about for the first time, please give us a try. We know you will be pleased with your decision. Have a great new year and hope to see you all at the Couple’s Retreat on the Beach!

Labor Day Weekend Coming!

Friday, August 16th, 2013

Here we are in August already; summer half over. Labor Day Weekend is right around the corner. What a busy summer its been! Weather has been unusual like always. Fires in the inland areas, cool at the coast. A little bit of fog lately, but lifting here and there making way for a beautiful day when thought otherwise.

There will be the Newport Jazz Party October 4-6, 2013 at the Newport Performing Arts. Look online for details;

The Oyster Cloister will be on November 2, 2013 at the Newport Aquarium as their major fundraiser;

We would like to do some more wine tasting evenings or weekends with our friend Michael, a wine distributor for small Oregon vineyards. There is no charge for his get together, and you may purchase small vineyard wines from him like we do. Vineyards around the Willamette, Rogue, and Umpqua Valleys just to name a few.  I just need to know if there is any interest. We can start a list of interested parties and let you know when he might be by or have a special request with ample notice.

A quick note to tell you what’s up: November we will be closed in an effort to remodel our way outdated kitchen. We hope to open early December and continue those great breakfasts you’ve all enjoyed.

Please enjoy your vacation and travel safely,

Newport – A Diamond in the Rough

Thursday, May 23rd, 2013

What a Spring! Almost seems like Summer with so many sunny days. We actually had two sunny weeks with some highs in the mid 80′s. Seems like a diamond in the rough.  Not much in the way of great storms this year, but we will take the sun.

What’s new? The dining room floor is done and beautiful; easy to clean and keep clean. Everybody loves the new Sateen sheets we put in; as well as the new down pillows in every room.

We are looking at a very busy Summer already! Our garden seems to blow up every week, always something new blossoming. We are getting great fires in the new pit, but not on windy days. Memorial Day Weekend is full except for one cancellation due to an emergency. If you are still looking for a great place, Windswept is open for the minimum 2 plus days. We still have a few rooms left for Fourth of July. There will be fireworks in the bay again this year.

My daughter and I have been walking to the Lighthouse just about everyday; 2.6 mile round trip. Last time we spotted a gray whale headed north around Yaquina Head about 9 times. As we got to the ocean side of the Lighthouse, we spotted a younger gray going the other way about 5 times ending in a tail shot for a deep dive. Who said you can’t see whales from Yaquina Head?

Calendar calls for the Newport Marathon on June 1st at Yaquina Bay State Park; and the 2013 Newport Celtic Festival and Highland Games are June 7-9 at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds here in Newport.

Have a Great Summer and hope to see you all at the Ocean House!

Highlights of 2013

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013

Just a reminder:  There is still time to book stays for Valentine’s Day and of course the Annual Newport Seafood Festival, February 21, 22, 23, and 24. Remember Thursday Feb. 21 can only be purchased online, not at the door. We have had a sight to behold: over a week of beautiful blue sky and sun! We even sat on the patio having morning coffee for a few mornings. Had some intense storms, upwards of 98 mph at Yaquina Head.  The new overlook deck is done with a huge firepit. And I am in the process of placing 18″ x 18″ “Sandy Beach” tile in the dining room. Gorgeous! If I don’t say so myself.

Anyway, January has been a little on the cold side and hoping that February will have some great storms for those of you that like storm watching. Remember that between these storms, we have some of the most beautiful sunny and bright blue sky imaginable. Look forward to your calls and see you at the Ocean House!!

Second Year and Full Speed Ahead

Thursday, December 27th, 2012

Happy New Year to all and thank you for coming to enjoy the Ocean House. As we close our first year here in Newport, we start year two running: the overlook deck is finished with more room, safer footing (no steps), and a brand new FirePit to christen. Views abound from stem to stern; Nye Beach and points South to Yaquina Head. The dining room has a new look with its new beautifully laid tile floor appropriately named Sandy Beach.

The 36th Annual Newport Wine and Seafood Festival is February 21 – 24, 2013 and we still have a few spots left, so call early and reserve.

Winter may be quiet crowd wise, but it’s always fun to watch the storms at the beach. So come, relax with a good book and cup of cocoa, put your feet up and watch Mother Nature’s show.

See You Soon,

The Ships are Coming, the Ships are Coming!

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

As you may have noticed, I am not much of a blogger. But there is news to tell and here it is: The Tall Ships are coming to Newport. The Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain, both tall ships will be in Yaquina Bay May 15 – May 27 for tours and naval skirmishes. Don’t miss it.

Also, there’s the Newport Oregon’s Home and Garden Show from May 18 until May 20 at the Newport Recreation Center, located at 225 Avery

Join us for the highly anticipated 2nd Annual Celtic Festival and Highland Games on June 8, 9, & 10, 2012 at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds at 880 NE 7th St. Newport.

Have a restful stay at the Ocean House Bed & Breakfast, “Far enough to be Away, Close enough to be Near” at the “Couples Retreat at the Beach”. Couldn’t help a little advertising there.  See you all soon!

A New Beginning… The Calling of the Oregon Coast!

Sunday, November 13th, 2011

As we say goodbye to Terry and the gang, Ocean House welcomes the new owners from the High Rocky Mountains.  Used to the rural cities and the great outdoors, we fell in love with this sweet area known as Newport, the grand Pacific Ocean with its spectacular waves and rocky cliffs.  We are Craig and Dawn Lodge (yes, that is our name), your new innkeepers and would like to extend a warm greeting to all of you.   Since we are only the stewards of the Inn, the heart and soul of the Ocean House will continue to be a place of peace and relaxation.  A Couples Retreat!

We look forward to seeing you soon,
